Job opportunity: Specialist Services Paramedic - EOI - St John WA


Specialist Services Paramedic cohort, is a high-performing clinical group within the Community Stream with exclusive servicing to the Event Health Services (EHS) and Industry Medical Services (IMS). The opportunity expands the horizons of traditional health service delivery and pre-hospital care, enabling a broad application of skills and leadership in non-traditional practice settings. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to health service resilience, enhanced governance, and tailored healthcare delivery across complex, high-risk, or high-profile environments.

As a Specialist Services Paramedic, you will be part of a forward-facing, clinically accountable team providing advanced care, leadership and oversight in unique service environments.

This team plays a critical role in maintaining public safety, responding to clinical cases and emergencies within defined environments, providing evidence-based care in a complex environment. You will be supported with clinical escalation pathways via the Clinical Support Paramedic (CSP) and State Coordination Centre (SCC).

This role represents the pinnacle of recent enhancements in clinical governance, policy reform, and operational readiness.

Key responsibilities

Include the following:

  • Provide high-level clinical leadership and guidance to other healthcare professionals within Specialist Services environments in accordance with the St John WA Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs).
  • Ensure a high level of clinical care and clinical support inclusive of safety netting, clinical escalation, and decision support across diverse service environments.
  • Ensure high quality clinical documentation, debriefing, and clinical quality processes aligned with NSQHS Standards.
  • Serve as a key contact for transitioning new Specialist Services deployments as they expand beyond the existing clinical environments.

Requirements

  • Experience or readiness to work across a variety of specialist environments (e.g., event health, industrial, remote, aviation, or mass gathering/participation health settings).
  • Demonstrated leadership and accountability in autonomous or semi-autonomous clinical roles.
  • Working knowledge of governance frameworks, Poisons Permits, SASAs, and national standards relevant to expanded paramedic practice.
  • Must be classified as an AHPRA Registered Paramedic with recency of practice (within the last 6-months) in a State Ambulance Service functioning in a clinical capacity (mandatory).
  • Class C Western Australian drivers' licence or capacity to acquire.
  • Emergency Management and/or Forward Commander training (desirable/ or willingness to obtain).
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to empathise with individuals, fostering a supportive environment that prioritises mental health in providing strong service outcomes.
  • Demonstrate clinical excellence and prioritise patient-focused care, applying critical thinking and making timely decisions in complex situations.
  • Uphold high ethical standards, respect patient confidentiality, and value cultural and individual differences in all interactions.
  • Highly developed analytical skills to share knowledge with others, develop skills, and ensure effective handover and safety briefing for upcoming shifts.

Desirable Requirements

  • Post graduate qualifications in a relevant field.
