Australasian College of Paramedicine launches new Paramedic Preceptor Program

The Australasian College of Paramedicine (the College) has launched a comprehensive new training program designed specifically for paramedics who mentor and guide students and graduate paramedics, offering flexible, self-paced learning tailored to the demands of working preceptors.

The Paramedic Preceptor Program addresses the critical need for skilled mentorship in paramedicine by equipping both new and experienced preceptors with practical tools and theoretical foundations to effectively support, educate, and coach emerging paramedics.

Flexible, Modular Learning

Recognising that preceptors balance teaching responsibilities with their clinical work, the program features a modular structure that allows participants to customise their learning journey. Each module is self-paced and available for individual purchase, enabling preceptors to select content most relevant to their development needs while continuing to work.

Modules remain accessible for two months from enrolment, and participants can undertake multiple modules concurrently to suit their schedules and learning objectives.

Comprehensive Curriculum

The program comprises two core modules that establish foundational knowledge:

  • Guiding the learning of others
  • Psychology of learning

Following completion of the core modules, preceptors can choose four from eight elective modules covering diverse aspects of paramedicine and leadership:

  • Precepting: The art of supporting learning in the workplace
  • Women in leadership
  • Enhancing wellbeing for paramedics: A comprehensive approach
  • Effective scene leadership for paramedics
  • Non-discriminatory and responsive care
  • Effectively communicate with children
  • Giving effective performance feedback for preceptors

Participants receive a certificate of completion for each module. Those who complete both core modules plus four electives will be awarded a certificate of completion for the full Paramedic Preceptor Program.

Special Focus on Experienced Paramedics

While suitable for preceptors at all levels, the program places particular emphasis on supporting experienced paramedics as they transition into expanded roles in leadership, education, or advanced clinical practice.

Additional Resources and Community

Enrolment includes premium access to the Preceptor Hub, a collaborative space where paramedic preceptors can connect with peers, share experiences, and participate in live webinars and recorded events focused on critical aspects of preceptorship. The Hub also provides curated resources to support ongoing professional development.

Eligibility and Enrolment

The program is available to paramedics with current full College membership (Member, Associate, or Fellow) and either Ahpra registration or Kaunihera Manapou Paramedic Council registration. For more information and to enrol, click here.
