The Lingering Toll: The Cumulative Impact of Ambulance Ramping on Paramedic Mental Health and Professional Identity.
Ambulance ramping, where paramedics experience delays in transferring care of patients to hospital emergency departments, is an increasing issue globally. These delays contribute to prolonged workloads, operational inefficiencies, and increased stress for paramedics. While much of the research on ramping focuses on causes and potential strategies to mitigate, there is limited exploration of its cumulative impact on paramedic mental health and professional identity.
This research study aims to explore the effects of cumulative ambulance ramping on paramedics' mental health and professional identity. Our findings aim to inform ramping related policies and enhance paramedic well-being and their sense of value within their profession, helping them to deliver high-quality care to the community.
