The College began the standards for paramedicine consultation process in December by hosting an in-person workshop in Melbourne with key individuals from across Australia who had previously reached out to express their support for this initiative.
The College invited Dr Jason Bendall to facilitate the workshop, which focused on defining what standards for paramedicine are, the types of standards the College should establish, and therein the priority standards for development. This initial workshop was focused on Australia with plans to replicate this in Aotearoa New Zealand next year.
Behind the scenes, the College has already begun developing a governance framework that is designed to ensure that standards for paramedicine are developed to the highest quality, with person-centred care of paramount importance, as well as relevance, utilisation and impact to the health system and the profession.
We will be running consultations, holding discussions, and promoting other engagement opportunities throughout 2025. Interested members can stay up to date by following us on social media and via our newsletters Rapid Response and The Pulse.
