PNG Medical Team - Expressions of Interest

Opportunity to assist with providing medical support for an extensive COVID-19 outbreak in PNG.

The College has been approached by St John Ambulance PNG to assist with providing medical support for an extensive COVID-19 outbreak in PNG.

St John PNG have established a field hospital in Port Moresby and have requested support for deployment of a medical team of emergency doctors, nurses and paramedics. The Australian government, via AUSMAT and DFAT, are supporting this deployment.

The College is assisting by undertaking an EOI and vetting process for members to be a part of the medical team. The College will also cover all transport and other expenses for members to travel to and from the embarkation point for PNG.

St John will be employing and paying the medical team, and will be taking care of insurance, flights to / from PNG, food and accommodation, internal transport, security, uniforms, DFAT approvals, visas, medevac (if required) and quarantine costs.

Note: All team members will have to quarantine for 2 weeks upon return to Australia

The deployment will be for a minimum of 2 months, but team members could choose to stay on for up to 4 months. Deployment is likely first / second week of May.

The College will engage with employers on behalf of selected participants to ensure approvals are in place, but individuals will need to be prepared to take leave or use unpaid leave to attend.

Paramedics must be registered and ideally have some experience in austere environments. Applicants will need to be physically fit and well and have received at least one (preferably both) doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccination, along with general Category A vaccines.

Due to the nature of the field hospital, dual paramedic and nurse qualifications and/or registration will be highly regarded.

Applicants must have a valid passport with sufficient validity and provide a one page CV as part of this process.
