Self-paced learning and 100% online - eLearning a popular CPD choice for members

When the College embarked on designing an eLearning program as part of its education offerings, the Education team didn’t expect it to be such a “hit” from the beginning. But just three months since the program was launched, enrolments are skyrocketing, with more than 1400 to date, demonstrating that online accessibility and self-paced learning is an integral part of the continued professional development model.

There are several study areas currently available for paramedics to access - with many more in the development stage - including mental health, neurology, obstetrics, palliative care, and training and mentoring, with obstetrics thus far proving to be the most popular.

College Education Manager Julie Johnson said member feedback had been overwhelmingly positive, and the development team was working to incorporate some of their ideas and suggestions into forthcoming courses.

“It’s wonderful to engage with College members through eLearning education,” she said. “Developing online self-paced learning is just one way we aim to meet the growing needs of the profession. The opportunity to collaborate with experts to create quality experiences, which have been so well received, is exciting. It fosters even more growth in a developing suite of education that continues to evolve to represent the needs of paramedics working across all facets of patient care.”

Member feedback included:

“Fantastic course; the little snippets, slides and quizzes instead of big blocks of text made it engaging and easy to pick up and put down.”

“Really great course content and new platform. The new direction of College eLearning is great for clinical staff.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed the entire course. Congratulations on a job well done.”

“I found it really informative, and the scenarios put a lot of my questions to rest.”

“The course was extremely well structured, full of relevant content, and supported by excellent videos and images which made it all much easier to understand and remember.”

The College will continue to release new subject area courses and modules throughout the year.
