Investigating the everyday sexism experiences of female paramedics in Australia

Investigating the everyday sexism experiences of female paramedics in Australia

Are you a female paramedic currently employed in Australia?

We are looking for women who are currently employed as paramedics in Australia to participate in a research project exploring their everyday sexism experiences and the effects these experiences have on individual wellbeing, job performance and career trajectory.

This research will involve one on one semi structured interviews with women employed as paramedics in Australia. This research has the potential to better understand the common everyday sexism experiences of female paramedics in Australian based ambulance services and how this effects their wellbeing, job performance and career trajectory. This research will be shared with ambulance services and professional bodies in the hope that it may facilitate positive organisational change and influence affirmative action policy relating to sexism and gender disparity in the profession of paramedicine. The research findings may be transferrable to international ambulance services and principles applied to similar professions who are historically steeped in masculine culture.
