Research Opportunity: What are health professions educators teaching about consumer-initiated escalation of acute deterioration?

Are you a health professions educator teaching health professions staff or students to recognise and respond to acute deterioration? If so, we want to hear from you!

Patients, carers or families (healthcare consumers) are often the first people to recognise something is not right. For this reason, health services must have systems in place for concerned patients, carers and families to directly escalate acute deterioration. Health professions educators are responsible for preparing health professions staff and students for practice, which should include preparing them to listen and respond to patients, carers and families concerns about acute deterioration.

Little is known about what health professions educators are teaching staff and students to enable them to identify and respond to consumer-initiated escalation of acute deterioration. We aim to find out what is currently being taught, to help inform recommendations for education and research.
