Paediatrics Webinar Series

The College is excited to announce a series of paediatric online modules for its members.

Starting on Wednesday 3rd March, this will include four interactive workshops delivered by experts from Medicine, Paramedicine, and Nursing.

These sessions will cover topics raised by members to improve their care of the complex paediatric patient, including skill refreshers on uncommon skills such as Intraosseous access.

Each webinar will include specialist guest speakers and will be hosted by veteran College presenter & NSW Ambulance Paramedic, Dr Alexander Cardenas.

Session Four: IV and IO access in the Adult and Paediatric Patient

Monday 21st June 2021 | 18:30 - 20:00 AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time)

The FINAL session of the Practical Paediatrics for Paramedics series is on this Monday (21st) from 6:30- 8pm on Zoom. This session includes THREE guest speakers; Asst. Commissioner & ICU Nurse Practitioner Elliot Williams (St John NSW), Dr Cassandra Brown and PhD Paramedic Alex Cardenas.

This practical session puts you in the drivers seat to manage case studies of critically ill paediatric and adult patients, focusing on tips and tricks for managing Paediatrics in the out of hospital setting. So come along to this practical session that will give you new knowledge and skills to bring to your on road practice!

Session One: Applied Paediatric Care for the Paramedic

This session is an interactive session that will cover the key components of paediatric care for practicing paramedics. This multidisciplinary workshop will focus on clinical decision making and management of paediatric patients by focusing on the most common difficulties paramedics report with paediatrics. Participants will leave with practical and evidence based solutions they can immediately take to the next shift.

Session Two: Child in Crises- Advanced Paediatric Resuscitation Core Principles and Application

Following a very successful Session 1 that focused on respiratory conditions, Session 2 of the module will continue to utilise the highly interactive menti-meter webinar methodology to provide you with relevant and practical tips and tricks for the management of critically ill paediatrics. The session will apply unique paediatric physiology to pre-hospital settings and be hosted by Dr Alexander Cardenas with guest speaker Dr Cassandra Brown

Building on lessons learned from session one, session two will focus on application of critical assessment, treatment and referral decisions required by paramedics in managing the critical patient. Referencing best practice protocols and skills from national Paediatric Resuscitation Standards, this is a must see any on-road paramedic.

Session Three: The ABCs of Paediatric & Neonatal Resuscitation

This interactive webinar will be delivered by an expert panel including Dr David Fahey (Consultant Anaesthetist, Royal North Shore) , Dr Cassandra Brown (Chief Resident Medical Officer Children’s Hospital at Westmead) and Paramedic Alex Cardenas (PhD- Out of hospital Cardiac Arrest). This panel will ensure you leave the interactive webinar with essential tips and tricks for managing paediatric resuscitation.

Key areas of focus within resuscitation will include neonatal resus as well as decisions and skills for intubation/LMA insertion as well as IV and IO access.
