Expressions of Interest - Primary care standards for paramedicine


Background

The health landscape across Australasia is evolving. To support paramedics in primary care settings, standards need to be developed to ensure appropriate utilisation of paramedic capabilities, patient safety, health literacy across health sector, and training/education requirements.

The Australasian College of Paramedicine is developing standards for paramedicine in primary care and is calling for paramedics, and other health professionals, to be part of the expert project team that will develop these standards.

• Have a unique opportunity to contribute to an Australasian quality initiative supporting best practice for paramedicine in multidisciplinary primary care teams

• Contribute to the identification and development of primary care standards for paramedicine

• Ensure standards are consistent with evidence-based practice

• Provide significant relevant clinical, governance, research or risk expertise on matters impacting the development and implementation of the standards.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking paramedics, and other health practitioners, across metropolitan and regional/rural areas, public and private sectors in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand with relevant expertise and experience to join the expert project group. The mix of relevant skills and experience includes:

• Clinical experience of paramedicine in a primary care setting

• Research skills and experience, particularly in primary care or quality initiatives

• Experience with quality, evidence-informed clinical governance and patient safety,

What will the standards be used for?

The standards will provide a framework and consistent minimum standard of practice for the Australasian context. They will be used to inform:

• Individual paramedic practice

• Employers of paramedics working in multidisciplinary primary care teams

• Employees of multidisciplinary teams (other professions)

• Members of the public who receive care from paramedics working in primary care

• Curriculum development

Time commitment

This expert project group will run for approximately six months from October 2024 to March 2025. Members will be expected to attend regular expert working group meetings (every 4-6 weeks) for up to two hours each, for the duration of the project.
