First paramedics in Medicare Urgent Care Clinic

The Australasian College of Paramedicine (the College) has long advocated for the inclusion of paramedics in urgent care clinics, recognising the unique expertise and valuable contributions they bring to multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Today, the College, alongside Forhealth – Urgent Care Network, South West Sydney Primary Health Network and Coordinare PHNs, had the opportunity to congratulate the first paramedics employed at a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (MUCC) under the new MUCC Operational Guidelines.

The College celebrates this milestone as a powerful example of how paramedics can be embedded within primary and urgent care settings to enhance access, responsiveness, and health outcomes for communities. This appointment marks a meaningful step forward in expanding paramedic roles beyond traditional emergency services and into community-based, person-centred care.

The inclusion of paramedics in MUCCs reflects a broader shift toward integrated healthcare, where paramedics bring their clinical expertise, rapid assessment capabilities, and deep understanding of urgent care needs to multidisciplinary teams, strengthening the health system and improving health care access and outcomes.
