St John WA have an exciting new opportunity for a Deputy Director, Paramedicine to join our Emergency Stream on a 2 Year Fixed-Term Full-Time basis. You’ll be part of a highly skilled, committed and collaborative team that together provide crucial and highly valued services to the rest of the organisation.

The Deputy Director Paramedicine role is a newly created position that will operate as a paramedic equivalent to a Deputy Medical Director. This senior clinical leadership role will work alongside and in collaboration with the Medical Director to provide contemporary frontline consultancy and leadership shaping the future of paramedicine within the organisation, as well as providing advice to the Group Chief Executive Officer, Chief Emergency Officer and St John WA executive team on contemporary and innovative solutions to help promote a cohesive clinical direction and improve clinical performance across the organisation.

The Deputy Director, Paramedicine will serve as a proxy for the Medical Director where required and deemed appropriate.

The Deputy Director, Paramedicine will maintain frontline clinical competency with a minimum of 0.25 clinical operational responsibility.

What you’ll do:

This position will support St John WA in delivering the highest quality prehospital clinical care and will be critical to:

• Developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to help further the delivery and advancement of high-quality, evidence-based and patient-centred clinical care.
• Provide credible and high-level frontline leadership and guidance for operational staff through an open and collaborative approach.
• Lead the clinical workforce to encourage compliance with current contemporary paramedic practice through the mastery of the organisations clinical guidelines and standards and through promoting a culture of continuous learning and development by encouraging reflection, critical thinking and continuous improvement.
• Leading and contributing to a safe, lawful, and respectful workplace culture through the modelling of ethical and positive behaviours consistent with St John WA values.
• Work collaboratively with the Medical Director to ensure systems and processes pertaining to governance, training and education and clinical practice are contemporary and fit for purpose.

What you’ll need:

• Extensive knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues covering the delivery of ambulance services.
• Proven ability to understand and apply highly developed clinical reasoning and leadership skills which supports the delivery of quality ambulance services to the community.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, consultation, collaboration, networking, negotiation and advocacy skills.
• Strong people leadership skills within an ambulance environment.
• Knowledge of systems, tools and process within the ambit of this position.
• Good problem solving and organisational skills.
• High attention to detail.

Required Qualifications:

• Relevant Tertiary Qualifications in Paramedicine.
• Current unrestricted AHPRA Registration.
• Have a minimum seven years experience as an Ambulance Paramedic or equivalent on-road operational classification (eg Station Manager).
