CPG in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand: A reflection and call to action

The Australasian College of Paramedicine (the College) has released the findings of a commissioned report that calls for urgent action to improve the development of paramedic Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

High-quality, evidence-based CPGs are essential to delivering safe, effective, and consistent care. The report outlines key challenges in current CPG development, including variability in processes, limited formal training in guideline methodologies, and concerns about quality and trustworthiness. It also offers actionable recommendations to support the creation of guidelines that promote best practice, reduce harm, and improve patient outcomes.

Compiled by our Clinical Practice Guidelines Working Group, comprised of academics and experts, the report proposes a series of actionable recommendations to bolster the development of guidelines for paramedic clinical practice.
