Mental Health Series (Session 3): Mental Health and Wellbeing Throughout Your Paramedic Career

About The Event

The College is pleased to partner with Phoenix Australia to facilitate a series of four webinars for College members.

Each webinar will address different mental health and wellbeing issues, as well as target specific career stages. The aim is to improve the understanding of College members of the potential mental health and wellbeing impacts of being a paramedic, as well as strategies for building and maintaining their mental health and wellbeing at all career stages.

Webinar 1: Mental health and wellbeing in paramedics

Tuesday 9th March 2021 | 14:30 - 16:00 AEDT (Australian Eastern Daylight Time)

This is an introductory 90 minute webinar suitable for all College members, which provides an overview of the mental health and wellbeing impacts for paramedics, including risk and protective factors, and strategies for building and maintaining wellbeing in individuals and teams

Webinar 2: Mental health and wellbeing in student and early career paramedics

Tuesday 30th March 2021 | 14:30 - 16:00 AEDT (Australian Eastern Daylight Time)

This 90 minute webinar will be targeted at issues for students and early career paramedics, including preparing for the organisational and occupational stressors associated with being a paramedic, and how to develop and maintain self-care strategies.

Webinar 3: Mental health and wellbeing throughout your paramedic career

Tuesday 13th April 2021 | 14:30 - 16:00 AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time)

This 90 minute webinar will be targeted at mental health and wellbeing issues for paramedics throughout their paramedicine career, including managing cumulative trauma exposure and transitioning out of the role.

Webinar 4: Supporting mental health and wellbeing as leaders and supervisors

Tuesday 27th April 2021 | 14:30 - 16:00 AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time)

This 90 minute webinar will focus on the important role paramedicine leaders and managers have in supporting mental health and wellbeing in individuals and teams.

This 90 minute webinar will be targeted at mental health and wellbeing issues for paramedics throughout their paramedicine career, including managing cumulative trauma exposure and transitioning out of the role.

Learning objectives

• Understanding the organisational and occupational sources of stress for paramedics throughout their career, including transition out of role

• Understanding the potential impacts on mental health and wellbeing in the short-term and longer-term, including from cumulative trauma exposure

• Understanding strategies for dealing with cumulative trauma exposure, in the context of other organisational and occupational stressors

• Understanding when and how to access informal and formal sources of support

• Understanding how to establish and maintain appropriate self-care strategies.

Target Audience

College members who are career paramedics or those who are preparing for or have transitioned out of the paramedic role.
