Presented by Leeane Trenning Telehealth is a technology that has been used for many years to support clinicians in rural areas, being a mainstay of communication between rural and remote clinicians. In Queensland, telehealth is increasingly used to provide support to clinicians in rural and remote areas in the management of the critically injured or unwell patient. It has also evolved in the area of lower acuity emergency presentations via the Telehealth Emergency Management Support Unit (TEMSU), which was implemented in late 2013.  The challenges of implementing new models of clinical support and education to rural and remote clinicians via telehealth and other technologies will be discussed in this presentation.

Biography:

Lee Trenning is a Registered Nurse, with post graduate qualifications in Emergency and Critical Care nursing and Education. As a Clinical Nurse Consultant, and Nurse Educator, Lee has been involved in nurse education for the past 25 years in a variety of settings including metropolitan tertiary Emergency Departments and Critical Care Units, as well as regional and rural facilities. Lee’s current position is as a Nurse Educator with Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ).  As part of this role Lee provides education opportunities and support to clinical staff within RSQ and to rural and remote clinicians via telehealth. Lee is the current Associate Exec Director of the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA), the President of CENA QLD and an Executive Committee member of the Association of Queensland Nurse Leaders (AQNL).
