In rural and remote areas there are additional challenges to pre-hospital and hospital care due to the long distances required to travel and the resources that may be required. Paramedicine is evolving and there are more Community Paramedics and Paramedic Practitioners along with Industrial Paramedics entering the health care arena. Remote locations present their own challenges.

This CPD covers the challenges encountered when an emergency occurs in a remote area from a clinical perspective as well as the input of Telehealth and the role that they play. It highlights the importance of inter-agency work and collaboration.

The Royal Flying Doctor service will be presenting on the unique challenges they face within a case study, highlight how telehealth plays an important role in the communication chain and the role of interagency interactions with the remote patients.

Backpacker medics are a volunteer group that provide a platform for Paramedics and other pre-hospital workers to engage with the world of humanitarian work. They have predominately been based in Nepal however have done a lot of disaster relief work. They will present on the challenges they face, case studies and give an insight into paramedicine with limited resources.
