Injury is a leading cause of paediatric death worldwide, accounting for 950,000 deaths each year. For every severely injured child in Australia, there are at least 13 hospitalised with minor or moderate injuries. Children differ from adults anatomically, physiologically, psychologically and cognitively which influences our assessment, management and approach to paediatric trauma. This presentation will explore the approach to paediatric trauma and the importance of good clinical decision making via case based learning.

**Biography: **

With over 15 years of experience internationally in the pre-hospital environment, Catherine is currently working as a Critical Care Paramedic in Brisbane with Queensland Ambulance Service. Catherine is an experienced Critical Care Flight Paramedic and has worked as part of metropolitan and rural flight teams. Catherine’s other roles include board member of the clinical governance committee in the UK’s South Western Ambulance Service, Queensland State-wide Reperfusion Coordinator, Senior Clinical Educator and sessional tutor for university programs. Catherine is passionate about prehospital care and the development of the Paramedic profession.
