"You Must See Some Terrible Things"

About

Presented by Jordan Emery The presentation will reflect on the personal journey of Jordan in his short career as a paramedic. It will explore the challenges of maintaining mental wellness, the disconnect between paramedics and their families and friends when confronted with extreme trauma, and how to get by after a crappy day at work. In particular, Jordan will explore what he describes as ‘sharing my care’ – the shared responsibility we have to support, carry and grow with each other through the normal sufferings of our jobs and our lives.

Jordan has been a paramedic for 8 years, working throughout metropolitan Sydney. He holds the substantive position of Duty Operations Manager at the Sydney Ambulance Centre and most recently has been working as the Executive Staff Officer to the Commissioner of NSW Ambulance. He is passionate about the mental health and wellbeing of paramedics and was one of two operational representatives to sit on the inaugural NSW Ambulance Wellbeing & Resilience Advisory Panel in 2009, which has now become a standing committee developed to implement proactive solutions for employee wellbeing within the organisation. He graduated from Charles Sturt University with a Bachelor of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) with Distinction and is in his final year of a Masters of Public Health and Masters of Health Management at the University of NSW. He has been a Director on the Board of the Australian & New Zealand College of Paramedicine, and held the position of Vice Chair.
