Presented by Malcolm Lau Presentation Synopsis: Using a case study Malcolm will review the management of a patient with an evolving STEMI that resulted in a declined transport. This session will be a practical overview of the assessment of a patient's capacity & competency, extending into the realms of paramedic clinical judgment regarding non transport decisions and how paramedics are supported by pathways & protocols from a NSW Ambulance perspective.

Bio: Malcolm has been with NSW Ambulance for almost 15 years. Starting in 2002 as a starry eyed probationary officer in Central & East Sydney. He completed his Intensive Care qualification in 2005 working a further 5 years as an ICP in Sydney's CBD. 2009 to 2011 saw a move into Ambulance Education as a Clinical Training Officer. In 2011 he returned to 'the road' qualifying as a Special Operations Team paramedic & in 2013 qualified as an Extended Care Paramedic. He has mentored paramedics from the trainee to Intensive Care level. As well as lecturing on specialist courses, PHTLS courses & management forums. He is currently the Clinical Lead responsible for the establishment of the ECP program in Northern Sydney. When the uniform comes off, he enjoys time with his family, swimming, surfing, snow-skiing, good coffee, eating & travelling.
