Presenting yourself as “you” in the workplace is not as easy as you would think. In a world of social media where perception is reality and fact is conveniently overlooked, there is extreme pressure on us to watch what and how we say our truth. This is especially important for managers, who act as the temperature gauge for “culture” within organisations: the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s not surprising that authenticity is such a hot topic – people don’t know how to be themselves for fear of offending, for fear of being ridiculed and rejected.
