Presented by Dr Nick Jansen Presentation Synopsis: Nick will cover recent advances and trends in airway management with a focus on equipment (video laryngoscopy), pharmacology (what's new in neuromuscular blockade) and techniques (emergence of CICO: can't intubate can't intubate, drills and training).
Bio: Nick Jansen is a Visiting Medical Specialist in Anaesthesia & Perioperative Medicine at The Royal Melbourne Hospital & Royal Women's Hospital in Parkville, Victoria. His interests are in high risk obstetric anaesthesia, neuroanaesthesia, trauma anaesthesia and advanced life support and resuscitation. He is a Senior Instructor with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST) program.
He has had extensive involvement with ambulance and paramedics in the pre-hospital setting. He was formally the Deputy Commissioner of St John Ambulance Victoria, a Senior Retrieval Physician with Ambulance Victoria (ARV) and is still involved with the Emergency Management Branch of AV in his ongoing role as a Field Emergency Medical Officer and Coordinator under the Victorian State Health Emergency Response arrangements.
