Time-and-motion study of community paramedics in an Australian ambulance service

Community Paramedics working reactively in ambulance services are safe and beneficial for health outcomes, economic and efficiency outcomes, patient experience, and practitioner experience. However, while the outcomes of these models appear positive, the on-scene actions that lead to these outcomes are unknown. This study independently recorded 5,492 minutes of Community Paramedics on-scene with patients, describing their actions, interventions taken, and mapping the ‘standard’ case.
