ACPIC 2025 delivered a wide range of clinical and research sessions from experts and leaders in paramedicine. Hosted in Brisbane (September 2025) the program was designed to inspire, educate and broaden horizons.

Career Pathways - Panel Discussion

This panel discussion will highlight post-university graduation pathways into the profession, including what to do while waiting for a graduate position. Panellists will explore postgraduate courses, alternative careers outside the state system, and practical ways to stay engaged and grow through CPD. The discussion will help students stay motivated, build skills, and discover new pathways while they wait for their ideal role.

Panel Members: A/Prof Ben Meadley, Jeremy Kuiper and Richard Armour

Biography: A/Prof Ben Meadley

A/Prof Ben Meadley is an experienced clinician-researcher whose work bridges clinical practice, human performance, physiology, and operational readiness in critical occupations. With nearly 30 years of frontline experience, including as an Intensive Care Flight Paramedic and Director of Paramedicine at Ambulance Victoria, he leads applied research into how stressors like heat, fatigue, and shift work affect performance in high-stakes environments. Ben has co-authored almost 50 journal articles, co-edited a the leading critical care paramedicine textbook, and developed validated assessment standards used internationally. He holds adjunct appointments at Monash University and remains active in clinical care, education, and international collaboration in paramedicine.

Biography: Jeremy Kuiper

Jeremy Kuiper is a registered paramedic and a clinical educator with the Australasian College of Paramedicine. He has worked in both the public and private sectors, including a state ambulance service, as an event paramedic, and for private registered training organisations working in both regional and metropolitan areas of NSW. Jeremy has a particular passion for Surf Lifesaving and is the Director of Education for his local Surf Club.

Biography: Richard Armour

Richard is a Critical Care Paramedic and PhD candidate with a particular interest in the emergency system of healthcare for people who use alcohol and other drugs. Richard has previous experience in the United Kingdom and Canada, where he worked to update federal and provincial legislation to modernise the scope of practice for paramedics in British Columbia. Richard is a keen advocate for paramedics working in expanded roles within health, as well as the potential role of allied health professions in emergency ambulance services.
