Development of a national implementation strategy for the Palliative Paramedicine Framework to standardise best practice across Australia

The profession of Paramedicine is rapidly evolving and paramedics are now routinely attending patients with palliative care needs. In 2024 a Palliative Paramedicine Framework was created to standardise best practice in Australia. This Framework required an implementation strategy to ensure its successful roll-out across all jurisdictions. Central to this roll out is the concept of the modern paramedic, who makes nuanced complex decisions regarding patient care daily. At a local level, this paramedic needs direct communication with specialists and recognition as part of the multi-disciplinary team. At a national level, successful implementation depends on education reform, access to electronic medical records and involving paramedics in consultations regarding national health care policy.
