Profiling the Australasian paramedicine tertiary sector and academic workforce – a cross-sectional study

The paramedicine tertiary sector has expanded considerably since the commencement of the first university program in 1996. More than a quarter of a century on, substantial concerns have been voiced regarding the sustainability of the paramedicine academic workforce working within it. High staff turnover and burnout, unrealistic research performance expectations, high teaching loads, and a shortfall in senior paramedicine academic leadership have been put forward as contributing factors. This presentation provides results from a national cross-sectional survey that provides a descriptive analysis of the paramedicine academic sector and the academic workforce within it, and discusses enablers and barriers to it future sustainability.
