Eyes wide shut - reflecting on conscious and unconscious bias during clinical care of a person with autism
Paramedic practice in Australia has evolved over the past two decades to provide excellence in clinical care. However, there are obvious geo-political and systemic impacts on the sensitive delivery of clinical care to vulnerable populations. This session provides an opportunity to reflect on the care provided to people in the community, and to discuss the implications of conscious and unconscious bias through a case study. The case study involves a young man diagnosed with autism and highlights opportunities for self-reflection required for professional growth.
