Biographies:

Dr Helen Webb - Helen’s lecturing focus is currently in the areas of major incident management, trauma and medical emergencies. Helen is a member of the Australian Army Reserve where she holds the rank of Captain. Helen is an Emergo Train System Senior Instructor and a Major Incident Medical Management and Support (MIMMS) Course Director. Helen has received several learning and teaching awards including; Australian Awards for University Teaching – Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, two Vice Chancellor’s awards for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning and the Grand Cross Pro Merito Militensi for the development of educational programs and training of Paramedics in East Timor. Helen is a member of the AHPRA Paramedicine Accreditation Committee.

Paul Simpson - Paul is a senior lecturer and the inaugural Director of Academic Program for Paramedicine at Western Sydney University.  He began his paramedicine career in 1996 with NSW Ambulance, where he worked as intensive care paramedic, clinical educator and research fellow. He completed his PhD in Public Health and Community Medicine, investigating epidemiology and clinical outcomes of older people who fall and receive care from paramedics.  Paul's current research interests are diverse, and include work-integrated learning in undergraduate paramedicine programs, infection control in the prehospital setting, paramedic management of mental health, and paramedic academic leadership and workforce issues.

Paul is active in service to the profession of paramedicine.  Paul conceived and established the Australasian Council of Paramedicine Deans in 2018 and was elected as the inaugural Council Chair, as role he continues to serve in. He is the current Chair of the National Research Committee for the Australasian College of Paramedicine, where he has been instrumental in establishing a national research mentorship program.

Bill Lord - Bill Lord is a registered paramedic who has worked as a paramedic in Sydney, Melbourne, and more recently on the Sunshine Coast with the Queensland Ambulance Service until 2018. He has worked in higher education for 25 years including at Charles Sturt University where he was a senior lecturer and coordinator of the Bachelor of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) program. In 2004 he was appointed to the position of Head of Undergraduate Paramedic Programs at Monash University and in 2012 moved to the University of the Sunshine Coast to take up the position of Associate Professor and Discipline Leader for Paramedic Science. Bill currently has an adjunct Associate Professor position at Monash University, and is deputy co-chair of the Paramedicine Accreditation Committee within AHPRA.
