Fluid resuscitation in trauma has always been a controversial issue. The debate continues currently with many front line pre-hospital services carrying blood products and instituting a variety of resuscitation strategies. We will briefly explore the history and rationale behind these different approaches. We will discuss the use of blood products including how and when to use them. We will also look into future therapies for resuscitation.
