The UK College of Paramedics and the Australasian College of Paramedicine are pleased to be collaborating on this webinar, offering members of both organisations the opportunity to view the session live.

This event will profile the Queensland High Acuity Response Unit and their role in responding to critically unwell medical and trauma patients. It will discuss the training, clinical governance, skill mix, equipment and team focus on clinical excellence in prehospital critical care.

Matthew Meister and Dr Stephen Rashford, both from Queensland Ambulance will be joined by Christian Wiggins, International Critical Care Paramedic Representative for the UK College, to present on his fellowship findings across differing critical care teams in Australasia as well as future development for prehospital critical care practice in the United Kingdom.

Biography: Matthew Meister - Matt has been a paramedic with the Queensland Ambulance Service for 15 years and as a critical care paramedic since 2011, he has spent the last 6 years working on the High Acuity Response Unit (HARU). Matt is a qualified USAR level 2 officer and heavily involved in police tactical medical training. Matt has specific interest in road traffic trauma and penetrating injuries. In his free time Matt lives on the sunny Gold Coast of Queensland with his wife and two young children.

Christian Wiggins - Christian is the International Critical Care Paramedic Representative for the UK College of Paramedics and currently works as a Critical Care Paramedic for Great Western Ambulance and a Royal College of Emergency Medicine trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner at Southmead hospital Emergency Department, the largest Major Trauma Centre in the South West of the UK.

Dr Stephen Rashford - Dr Stephen Rashford is a specialist emergency physician and medical director of the Queensland Ambulance Service. He has been medical director since 2005 and overseen a significant expansion in practice, including several novel treatment strategies. He is committed to ensuring quality evidence-based care. Dr Rashford will regularly attend cases in the field with paramedics. His special interests revolve around innovative trauma care interventions, including airway management, point of care ultrasound, aggressive blood product administration and high-performance quality assurance activities. He only wishes this same commitment to improvement would extend to his golf game!
