In remote Australia, 7 out of 10 Indigenous children will suffer from scabies before their first birthday. Crusted scabies has been linked to lower life expectancy, rheumatic heart disease and chronic renal disease.

About the presenter

Sharon is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years’ experience; she has lived and worked in Alice Springs for the last 14 years. Prior to joining One Disease, her positions included working at the Menzies School of Health Research as the Alice Springs Research Nurse site coordinator on a clinical drug trial, and as an Emergency Nurse. Sharon currently works as a Senior Community Nurse with One Disease. Her key responsibilities include: Management of Crusted Scabies in the Alice Springs region, and developing community and clinical partnerships. Sharon’s favourite part of her job is working with clients, their families and local clinic staff; everyone’s end goal being the minimal re-infestations of Crusted Scabies in the region.
