ACPIC 2023 delivered a wide range of clinical and research sessions from experts and leaders in paramedicine. Hosted in Melbourne (September 2023) the program was designed to inspire, educate and broaden horizons.

PEM - the where, why and how?

This presentation assess data from literature to highlight the common reasons for paediatric presentation, explains why they access care in this way and discusses the care options for paediatric patients across the age range.

Biography: Dr Claire Wilkin

Dr Claire Wilkin is a paediatric emergency physician with extensive experience in critical care, within hospital, retrieval and pre-hospital environments. Dr Wilkin trained at the Royal Children Hospital in Melbourne, with experience in London with CATS and HEMS London as well as with retrieval services across Australia. SHe has worked in low resource and refugee environments in Uganda and she has a Masters in aeromedical retrieval. Dr Wilkin is a huge fan of real clinical medicine and diagnostics and is much less adept at tech and AI. When not actively avoiding computer based tasks, she can be found chasing her three children and large brown dog around the suburbs.
