New Zealand Paramedic Registration opens this week

After extensive work and consultation, registration for New Zealand paramedics opens this Wednesday 20th January, under Te Kaunihera Manapou Paramedic Council, the regulatory authority responsible for the registration of paramedics.

There are three pathways available for registration:

  • Pathway A – Requires evidence of completing an approved tertiary qualification in paramedicine.
  • Pathway B – Requires you to have an Authority to Practise (ATP) at paramedic level or above from a Council-approved provider.
  • Pathway C – Requires you to demonstrate your experience and knowledge by submitting a portfolio that outlines how long you have been a practising paramedic or in paramedic education or research and the kind of skills you bring to the job.

The Paramedic Council has developed a set of instructional videos on how to register under each pathway. Click here to visit the How to Register page and view the videos.

There is also a list of Frequently Asked Questions on the Council’s website, which cover professional indemnity insurance, use of the paramedic title, and what the decision to regulate paramedics means. Click here to visit the FAQ page.

More information can be found on the Paramedic Council’s website.
