Arm yourself against COVID-19

The College strongly encourages all members, including student paramedics, to get their full COVID-19 vaccination course. Vaccination gives us greater protection against the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 while assisting to manage the risk of COVID-19 transmission to patients, colleagues and the community.

Paramedics have an increased risk of exposure to COVID-19 through daily contact with potentially at-risk members of the community. It is important that we do all we can to reduce the rate of transmission of COVID-19 within society and ease the burden on the healthcare system as a whole.

Both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines continue to be recommended as safe by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI). Although COVID-19 vaccines are voluntary in Australia, it's important that paramedics who can get it, do get it, to help keep themselves and others safe.

We would like to echo the national vaccination message: A COVID-19 vaccine is your best defence and our only way forward. Now is the time to arm yourself, your family, your friends, your work mates, your community – someone you love.

“Getting the COVID-19 vaccine is the one positive thing within our control that we can do. Rolling up our sleeves to get the jab will help towards getting life and the world back to normal. It will also help to improve our overall health outcomes and help to relieve pressure on our increasingly burdened health system,” says John Bruning, CEO of the College.

“Our message to our members is clear: we strongly encourage you to arm yourself against COVID-19.”

Your vaccination will also contribute to achieving the highest possible level of protection across the community and help us get back to a more “normal” way of life.

The College encourages anyone with vaccine concerns in relation to their health to have a conversation with their GP.
