This event will begin with a short review on advanced skills in trauma care, and some insights into extended care training of flight critical care paramedics in Queensland. The session will then progress into a practical workshop, with participants rotating around skills stations on RSI drills, surgical airways, finger thoracostomy, needle thoracentesis and fracture reduction. This workshop will be delivered by experienced critical care paramedics, including experts in trauma care and retrieval medicine.

Tim has been a paramedic with the Queensland Ambulance Service since 2008 and has been practicing as a critical care paramedic for the past 13 years. Most recently he has been working on the Brisbane High Acuity Response Unit (HARU) and enjoys passing on his experience and lessons learned in his role as a clinical support officer.
Anthony completed a Bachelor of Science through Deakin University after finishing school. He found himself becoming a paramedic by chance in 1999, commencing work in Sydney and transferring to rural Queensland in 2002. He worked in the Wide Bay Burnett area while completing a post graduate diploma in intensive care paramedicine and successfully applied for the intensive care program In 2004. While working initially on road, Anthony was soon involved with helicopters based in Bundaberg. He has spent time as an Officer in Charge and Clinical Support Officer on the Fraser Coast. In 2010 he successfully applied for a position on the special operations response team in Brisbane before gaining a position on the Sunshine Coast helicopter in 2012 where he currently works as a critical care flight paramedic. Recently, Anthony has been involved in the development and implementation of the flight paramedic training program, has been a faculty member on the LifeFlight medical officer training week and has become involved in the transition to include flight paramedics into this program. Finally, Anthony was recently accepted to complete the extended scope of practice flight paramedic program, completing the initial HARU training course in August this year and currently working in a supervised practice model. While working towards obtaining credentialling through this program, he is also currently studying a Masters of Public Health.
Ben Phipps has been a paramedic for almost twenty years, with the last twelve as a critical care paramedic. A frontline supervisor and flight CCP on the Sunshine Coast, he has previously worked as a flight paramedic in Mackay and Thursday Island, and on road in Hervey Bay, Kingaroy, Cairns, Mossman and Innisfail. Outside of QAS, Ben is an auxillary firefighter with qualifications in several areas including vertical rescue & road crash rescue. A paramedicine panel pssessor with the Queensland Civil & Administrative Tribunal, Ben is married with one daughter (and another child on the way!)
Adjunct Associate Professor Tony Hucker is a Critical Care Paramedic with over four decades of experience in several Australian ambulance jurisdictions. Many years of clinical experience in both ground and rotary wing operations underpin a passion for clinical education and patient safety. Tony has extensive experience reviewing adverse outcomes from acute behavioral disturbance cases. Tony is currently the director of clinical operations for the Queensland Ambulance Service.
