A Palliative Approach to Care: Paramedics

About The Event

THE ROLE OF PARAMEDICS IN CARING FOR PALLIATIVE APPROACH PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

ACT based paramedics are invited to join this one day workshop, hosted by The Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA). Registration is free.

Program Objective: PEPA is funded by the Department of Health and is aimed at preparing Australia's health workforce to deliver quality, holistic, person-centred and culturally responsive care to people with life-limiting illness.

Aim of workshop: Develop an understanding of palliative care and where paramedics fit into the multidisciplinary team that is needed to support palliative patients and families.

Target Audience: Paramedics

Topics Include:

  • What is the Palliative Approach to Care & when is it relevant?
  • How does ACT Specialist Palliative Care Work?
  • What psycho-social and spiritual considerations are needed in Palliative Care?
  • What symptoms do palliative patients suffer from and how are they managed?
  • What is a palliative emergency and the role of a paramedic?
  • How does advance care planning really work in ACT?

Case Studies led by panel discussions from:

  • Ms Emma Awizen , Team Leader Advance Care Planning
  • Ms Juliane Samara, Nurse Practitioner, PEACE
  • Ms Ashka Jolly, CNC Community Specialist Palliative Care (TBC)
