Paramedic pharmacology: What we need to be doing better

About The Event

In this webinar we will explore aspects of pharmacology, both theoretical and practical, that paramedics need to be doing better. From better understanding the patient's pill box to appreciating the long-term impact of paramedic medication administration, this webinar will provide you with a more detailed and well-rounded knowledge base for all things paramedic pharmacology.

The panel will consist of industry experts, with a unique opportunity for live streaming participants to ask any pharmacology questions and have them answered in real time!

Speakers

Dr Alexander Olaussen

Alex has been a teaching associate with Monash University’s Department of Paramedicine since 2010 and is currently a Senior Lecturer. He is also a medical doctor working across many Victorian EDs, as well as research fellow with the National Trauma Research Institute (NTRI). Alex has a strong focus on fostering students and junior researchers. His main research lies in haemorrhagic shock and pre-hospital prediction of in-hospital outcomes. He was awarded the Hatem Salem Award for Medical Student Research Excellence for his thesis and the Avant Doctor in training grant for a study on synthetic blood.

Cristina Roman

Cristina has been the Senior Clinical Pharmacist at the Alfred Emergency and Trauma Centre in Melbourne since 2010. She is passionate about early pharmacist involvement in emergency medicine across the spectrum of patient presentations from trauma and resuscitation to emergency short stay admissions.

Adj Assoc Prof Alan Eade ASM

Alan is the Chief Paramedic Officer at Safer Care Victoria. Alan is a highly experienced and decorated intensive care paramedic, having worked clinically in Australia for more than two decades. He previously held the position of Chief Commissioner at St John Ambulance Australia, and is a past Director and Fellow of Paramedics Australasia.

Michaela Free

Michaela is a MICA Paramedic with Ambulance Victoria. She has a passion for continued education and high-quality patient centred care. Michaela has worked in various education roles throughout her career and is the current star of Channel 9’s blockbuster “Paramedics” show. Michaela currently holds a Graduate Diploma of Specialist Paramedic Practice and is currently completing the final subject to complete the Master of Specialist Paramedic Practice.
