Geriatric Education Evening

About The Event

ANZCP's Geriatric Education evening combines three great presenters covering trauma and low acuity treatment and pathways.

Presenters and schedule:

6.30 pm - Dr Guru Nagaraj - Geriatric Trauma

7.30pm - Dr Amith Shetty - HiTH (Hospital in the Home), risks associated for geriatric patients of ED and alternate treatment pathways

8pm - Claire Walker - NSWA Referral Pathways and Geriatric Case Studies

The Conference Facilities at Liverpool Hospital are located at Entrance A on the corner of Elizabeth and Goulburn Streets Liverpool, approximately 400 metres from Liverpool Train and Bus Station.

Car parking is available for a cost under the Thomas and Rachel Moore Education Centre with further spaces available in the multi-storey parking station in Campbell Street.

Speakers

Claire Walker

Claire Walker is Acting Manager, Models of Care within NSW Ambulance. Claire commenced with NSW Ambulance in 2005 as a paramedic and practiced as an Extended Care Paramedic from 2010, prior to moving into the Clinical Systems Integration directorate in 2016 to the role of Coordinator, Primary and Community Care. Claire also has a background as an Occupational Therapist primarily in the community and disability sector, prior to NSW Ambulance.

Dr Amith Shetty

Staff Specialist, Emergency Department, Westmead Hospital

Amith is an Emergency physician and Co-chair of NSW Emergency Care Institute and Westmead Emergency Medical Research Unit, an Honorary Research fellow at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research. He is also the director for the Western Sydney hospital in the home service and clinical advisor for eHealth NSW for data, analytics and innovation portfolios. Amith has been active in ED research fields of critical illness, sepsis and models of care delivery. Amith’s background knowledge and research in healthcare delivery, training in leading information technology initiatives and research into models of care and healthcare performance provide him the insight into the challenges and prospects for use of big data in future research and guidelines development.

Dr Guru Nagaraj

Dr Guruprasad Nagaraj is an Emergency Physician at Liverpool Hospital, Sydney, Australia. His other roles include; Conjoint Lecturer UNSW, Snr Lecturer Uni of Sydney, Vice Chair, GEMSIG of International Federation of Emergency Medicine, Research Fellow Simpson Institute for Research, ILP and Honours Students supervisor, SouthWest Emergency Research Institute. Guru obtained his MBBS in India in 2002. He then undertook further training in the UK prior to moving to Australia in 2006. He has been involved in the development of Geriatric Emergency Medicine in Australia and has set up first ever Geriatric Emergency Term in Australia at Hornsby Hospital. Interests include Geriatric Emergency medicine, Medical education, International Emergency medicine, Simulation, Philosophy, Poetry, and Music.
