Due to the popularity of the "Beyond the Rapids" event in Hobart, the College is happy to announce that the presentation and event will now also take place in Launceston.
OVERVIEW
This presentation examines the management of a complex river rescue involving a paddler who became trapped in rapids during a group expedition on the Franklin River in Tasmania. The location presented significant access limitations, requiring nearly 20 hours of coordinated effort involving multiple technical rescue scenarios.
The case ultimately required a pre-hospital limb amputation - performed in extreme environmental conditions.
The presenters will explore the complexities of the case, including team coordination in high-risk settings, the technical and logistical challenges of delivering care in such an isolated location, and the clinical decision-making required in a truly unprecedented scenario.
The session is relevant for regsitered paramedics, paramedic students, and other healthcare professionals interested in remote and pre-hospital emergency care.
