OVERVIEW

This presentation examines the management of a complex river rescue involving a paddler who became trapped in rapids during a group expedition on the Franklin River in Tasmania. The location presented significant access limitations, requiring nearly 20 hours of coordinated effort involving multiple technical rescue scenarios.

The case ultimately required a pre-hospital limb amputation - performed in extreme environmental conditions.

Rohan will explore the complexities of the case, including team coordination in high-risk settings, the technical and logistical challenges of delivering care in such an isolated location, and the clinical decision-making required in a truly unprecedented scenario.

The session is relevant for regsitered paramedics, paramedic students, and other healthcare professionals interested in remote and pre-hospital emergency care.
