Advanced airway management: practical workshop

About The Event

Join us for an immersive full-day, hands-on airway workshop at Flinders University designed to build confidence, refine technique, and strengthen clinical decision-making across all levels of prehospital practice.

This practical-focused workshop will be delivered in small groups within the Flinders University Paramedic Labs and facilitated by highly experienced anaesthetic clinicians with extensive prehospital and retrieval backgrounds. Participant numbers are strictly limited to ensure high instructor-to-learner ratios, personalised feedback, and repeated skills practice.

The day will commence with a structured presentation and interactive Q&A covering airway anatomy, anatomical variation, common complications, and clinical problem-solving in both controlled and challenging airway scenarios. Participants will then rotate through multiple airway skills stations across different rooms, with stations tailored to varying levels of experience — from students and interns through to qualified paramedics, ICPs and ECPs.

Stations will focus on core and advanced airway techniques, equipment handling, troubleshooting, and decision-making, with an emphasis on deliberate practice and open discussion. The final component of the day will integrate these skills into realistic airway scenarios, encouraging collaboration across clinical levels and supported by facilitated debriefs to consolidate learning.

This workshop is ideal for students, paramedic interns, paramedics, ICPs and ECPs seeking to strengthen airway fundamentals, refine advanced skills, and improve confidence in high-risk airway situations.
