Matt was 39 years old when a seemingly benign sore throat eventually became the loss of all four limbs. He had developed streptococcal toxic shock and was not expected to survive. Matt has beaten the odds. Today, he lives his life to the fullest as the father of four young children and husband of a very dedicated and loving wife.
Professor Finfer is one of the foremost authorities on the subject of sepsis. In addition to his role with the Australian Sepsis Network and Global Sepsis Alliance, Finfer is a professorial fellow in the critical care and trauma division at The George Institute in Sydney, Australia. Furthermore, he is a practicing critical care physician with an appointment as a senior staff specialist at the Royal North Shore Hospital and the director of intensive care at the Sydney Adventist Hospital. Simon is an adjunct professor at the University of Sydney Medical School and has been a returning editor for the Oxford Textbook of Critical Care.
