The cardiac cath lab

The cardiac cath lab

About

In this course, we review a patient's presentation with an acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We examine the entire patient journey from onset of symptoms, to successful treatment at a cardiac cath lab. You will apply your understanding of the pathophysiology of an AMI to develop a treatment plan, including the administration of pre-hospital thrombolysis. We examine the coronary angiogram and percutaneous coronary intervention procedures and apply this to a case study.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Examine the pharmacology of commonly administered medications used in treating a patient with a myocardial infarction.
  • Apply your understanding of the pathophysiology of a myocardial infarction and your understanding of pharmacology to develop a treatment plan in two case studies for patients experiencing a myocardial infarction.
  • Identify key components of the cardiac cath lab.
  • Examine the coronary angiogram procedure.
  • Examine the percutaneous coronary intervention procedure.
