Module 1: Mandatory reporting

Module 1: Mandatory reporting

About

Paramedic registration has been a huge step forward for the paramedic profession. The primary goal of paramedic registration by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) and Te Kaunihera Manapou Paramedic Council (Te Kaunihera) is to protect the health and safety of the public by ensuring that paramedics are competent and fit to practice with an assured level of knowledge, experience and skill. To protect the public from the risk of harm, paramedics have a legal obligation to make mandatory notifications to their regulatory body (Ahpra or Te Kaunihera) in circumstances when they have concerns about another paramedic’s practice or conduct.

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Describe the obligations of registered paramedics
  • Identify and discuss the circumstances that do and do not trigger a mandatory notification
  • Recognise professional standards relating to paramedicine
  • Identify and discuss how to make a mandatory notification to the relevant regulatory body
  • Recall and interpret the process involved when a notification is received by the regulatory body.
