Module 1: Management of physiological birth

Module 1: Management of physiological birth

About

This is the first module within the Obstetrics eLearning series.

Within midwifery, there is a move toward reclaiming and promoting physiological birth. What does this mean for paramedics supporting people birthing outside of hospital?

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • identify and interpret variations in normal physiology labour and birth.
  • plan and evaluate out-of-hospital management of labour and birth.
  • manage out-of-hospital care of the birthing person during imminent birth, including management of third stage.
  • manage out-of-hospital care of the newborn immediately after birth.
  • recognise, manage and evaluate all aspects of care of the birthing person and newborn during transport.

(Please note: While this module will work on a mobile device, for the best experience we recommend viewing it on a desktop device. But stay tuned — we are working on a more mobile-friendly experience.)
