Electrolyte disturbance

Electrolyte disturbance

About

Electrolyte disturbances are frequently encountered in prehospital care, though they can be difficult for paramedics to identify. These imbalances can arise from various underlying conditions. Left unrecognised or untreated, they pose significant risks to patient outcomes, including arrhythmias, neurological impairments, and even mortality. Paramedics can play a pivotal role in the identification and initial management of these disturbances. By the end of this module, you should understand how electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and others affect bodily functions, their clinical relevance, the symptoms associated with their imbalances, and how to identify and manage these disturbances in a clinical setting.
