Culturally aware assessment of pain

Culturally aware assessment of pain

About

Expanding on our 'Working across cultures' module, we take a look at our Indigenous populations and their experience in the healthcare system. We will investigate how the assessment and management of pain for Māori and Indigenous Australian populations can be improved.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify your own implicit and explicit biases and implement strategies to overcome these in your practice.
  • Identify the differences in the expression of pain across cultures and develop a better understanding of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Māori populations.
  • Understand your responsibilities as a healthcare professional to improve health outcomes.
