Exercise Trauma

Presentation Synopsis: Extended (usually competitive) exercise is becoming more of a mainstay and target within the athletic world. Beginner and experienced athletes are pushing their bodies to limits that they are often not accustomed to. Add to this the weather considerations for these events and the variables that may occur, this can cause significant medical trauma to the patient. This session will be focusing on hyponatraemeia, rhabdomyolosis and exercise induced haemolytic anaemia. Planning, prevention and recognition.

Bio: Rhian started Nursing in 2006 in the Emergency field, and is currently working as a Complex Care Clinical Nurse Consultant with ACT Health. He has a keen interest in Exercise Trauma management and have been providing clinical support to Ultramarathon events in Australia since 2011. Currently volunteer with NSW SES, St John Ambulance NSW.

Tertiary qualifications include, Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing with Professional Honours (emergency), Bachelor of Clinical Practice (Paramedicine) and currently completing Masters in Complex Care
