Vanuatu Emergency Services Association (VESA) is a non-governmental organisation that overseas three entities:

  • ProMedical Port Vila
  • ProMedical Luganville
  • ProRescue

ProRescue is a volunteer service based in Port Vila. Its primary role is to assist ProMedical, however it also supplements the Government Emergency services.

This position is for the Station Manager based in Port Vila, however the Clinical Manager component will require regular visits to Luganville.

About the role

At the Port Vila base you will ensure sufficient qualified staff and resources to meet the diverse patient needs. As Clinical Manager for the two paramedic services, you will assure the Board of the quality of clinical services offered.

  1. A whole of service operational plan will be developed, approved and updated as necessary
  2. All staff will be assisted in developing performance management plans which will be reviewed regularly
  3. Local students will be selected and supported to progress through to satisfactory graduation
  4. Clinical policies, procedures and practices will be reviewed and developed further to meet VESA's strategic and business plans. This will include clinical reporting to assist in discharging the responsibilities of the VESA Board
  5. As a senior clinical practitioner will demonstrate the highest standards of patient care and the development of policies and procedures as required

The varied patient presentations will add to your clinical experience. Diverse trauma patients will require stabilisation without comprehensive critical care back up. The tropical environment, economic and cultural factors contribute to cases such as ciguatera poisoning, dive compression illnesses and a significant number of serious NCD presentations. Caring for complex obstetrical patients requiring transfer from other islands or remote villages will provide many challenges and a wealth of experience

Scuba diving, surfing and kayaking are available on your doorstep as well as on trips to one of the 83 islands that make up Vanuatu. With 20 days of holidays and many public holidays we work hard and play hard.

Skills and experience

Essential Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Paramedics, ALS or Intensive Care qualifications and current AHPRA registration
  • At least five years as a practicing paramedic with evidence of a high standard of clinical skills
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical management and mentoring
  • Experience of clinical assessment and reporting including the investigation of incidents and facilitating clinical reviews
  • Able to pass police clearances, possess manual drivers licence and willing to reside full-time in Vanuatu for a minimum of 2 years

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience of working in the Pacific or similar environment
  • Cert IV certificate in training and assessment or willingness to pursue
  • Competency in Bislama and French or willingness to acquire
