Paediatric Foreign Bodies

About

Foreign bodies are an infrequent presentation in paediatrics and can range from benign ingestion to complete airway obstruction. The varying clinical presentation of foreign bodies can result in difficult assessment, triage and management decisions for the prehospital provider. This presentation aims to explore the complexities surrounding assessment and management of both ingested and inhaled foreign bodies in the paediatric patient, highlighting common presentations that may be encountered in the prehospital environment.

Jodie Finn is an Intensive Care Paramedic currently working with Ambulance Victoria and has close to 10 years experience in the prehospital setting. She is currently an acting Paramedic Educator at a MICA branch on the Mornington Peninsula and has developed a strong passion for mentoring and facilitating ongoing education.
