Dealing with major wounds

About

Presented by Associate Professor Martin Wullschleger

Swiss and Australian qualified General and Trauma Surgeon, who is currently appointed as Medical Director of Trauma at the Gold Coast University Hospital.

The management of major wounds is challenging in the early, and sometimes even throughout the later, stages of trauma care. Bleeding control to safe the limb and the life, decontamination to avoid infection, wound management with specific dressings as well as wound closure with potential reconstructive options are the main objectives of wound care. These challenges and their clinical management are discussed in the context of clinical examples.
